Lion Vasectomies

On our last day we visited a large cat rescue that also had hyenas and wolves. It was an great facility with mostly bottle raised orphaned animals. We performed two vasectomies on young lions due to the decreasing interest in lions on reserves and a difficulty placing them.

Elephant Whispers

We visited an elephant sanctuary called Elephant Whispers. During our visit we fed elephants, learned their external anatomy, saw the amazing number of cues they have learned and rod them. It was amazing!

Crocodiles

We visited one of the largest Nile crocodile farms in the world. The farming of crocodiles saved the species from being hunted to extinction in the wild. This farm sells all over the world including to Loui Vuitton.
On a seperate day we visited a research unit of crocs and were able to draw blood, sex and weigh them.

Rhino Dehorning

We visited the largest white rhino reserve in the world, which is owned by a client of Wildlife Vets. The rhinos were darted and dehorned to discourage poachers from trespassing and killing them for the high value horn. It is sawed off right above the germinal layer and when they wake up it doesn't hurt any more than a hair cut.

Sunset/Sunrise

Sunset

The sunrises and sunsets were some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. We watched many sunsets from the mountain at Terra Luna Lodge and in South African this is called a Sundowner.

Swaziland

We traveled to Swaziland and performed several mass captures of impala with this impressive staff of young men, who helped us with boma construction and capture. In one day we had captured 120 impala for relocation.
